Birdmen being able to equip the Sword of Darkness and Chaos Breaker - a mistake?

I'm working on a pretty comprehensive patch for the game, and I'm trying to find justification behind Sega's decision to allow both Balbaroy and Amon the ability to equip the Sword of Darkness and Chaos Breaker, respectively. The only other character able to do so is Max - a hero. And oddly enough, neigher Balbs nor Amon can equip the Sword of Light. Is it possible that this was a mistake on Sega's part? If it was intentional, surely they would have allowed for these characters to equip the Sword of Light, also?

Has my nerdom reached new heights?

What do you think? (about the equipping part) ;)

I always found it odd during the end credits Amon is using it during her attack sequence.... something I will address in the shining Force Alternate

@Erikin84 Huh, I didn't actually realise that. I've got to dig up a video of that now.

Edit: You are absolutely correct.

Do you think that given their connection to Shade Abbey, perhaps the two of them exhibit some sort of 'holy' power and that is why they can wield those swords? It feels like I'm just reaching here.

That would make sense and Gameplay wise letting the BDMN use the SOD and CB gave them alot of tools to play for pokes and hit and run. And also really help bring out the potential in Balbaroy aswell. Being able to dish out good damage and have a decent spell really helped considering the BDMN had no defense whatsoever

Sword of Light: No
Sword of Darkness: Yes
Chaos Breaker: Maybe...?

if you keep darkness in your heart, the sword of darkness will be your ally
Balbaroy and Amon are evil beings. xDDD

or maybe they are very good with all kinds of swords

The thing that made no sense was that you get the sword at prompt, just before going to Metapha, which is used indoors. You only get one battle to use the sword and yet the end credits show Amon outside with it. From a consistency standpoint doesn’t make sense

Also, there's no pegasus knight in chapter 7.

The end credits must’ve been a after thought thing

I wonder if maybe it was intended for the birdfolk to be able to equip the SoL and SoD and NOT the CB and someone flubbed it and let them use the CB instead?

It was intentional on the sword of darkness side, i'm not sure on the cb tho, that might have been a mistake but then again lore wise it was a sword with a mix of both, have to pull out my old sf2 game and see if the force sword allowed birdmen to use it, the back story of the sword leads one to believe it's the same sword as the cb. although in sf2 it has no magic which I think may have been an oversight. But then again since the hero learns bolt in sf2 the end sword for him isn't needed to have it's own magic.

I joined just to throw an answer out to this! lol
All birdmen are touched by Volcannon and able to withstand the touch of darkness.
Volcannon's power isn't derived from the Light.
